Nintendo’s most profitable first quarter ever thanks to Zelda and the Mario movie

Nintendo sees record first quarter profit. The Mario Movie and the latest Zelda game helped Nintendo post its most profitable first quarter ever.

Nintendo saw a boost from the “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” based on the company’s best-known characters and a game called “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”.

The company made 461.3 billion yen, around $3.2 billion, in net sales, up an astounding 50 percent compared to the same quarter last year.

The numbers on those two properties are impressive. Around the world, 168.10 million people watched The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

For a game to still push console sales some six years into its lifespan is impressive, and shows the strength of Nintendo’s iconic properties and how much of a hit the Switch has been.

Nintendo also previously forecast sales of 15 million units of its flagships Switch games console series for its current fiscal year ending March 2024.
